This is the new Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean “Big Blue”, a full ceramic blue Seamaster Planet Ocean with a heavy dose of orange accents throughout the watch. The piece, with GMT indication, follows the Omega Planet Ocean Deep Black collection of last year and is part of Omega’s ongoing move deep into ceramic that Omega really ramped up starting a few years go. It’s amazing how much innovation Omega packs into its SMPO watches, advancing the line year by year with more and more compelling features. And of course the design side of the consumer value proposition has also been advanced steadily. This latest piece is no exception…check it out below!
Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean “Big Blue”
45.5mm blue ceramic case
The watch comes in the SMPO “XL” case size of 45.5mm. The blue ceramic dial is ringed with an orange GMT track, itself indicated by the orange GMT hand. The hands and indexes are in 18k white gold with white Super-LumiNova coating. The blue ceramic bezel features a diving scale with Liquidmetal® numerals that Omega has been using for many years now. A blend of orange rubber and ceramic covers the first 15 minutes.
The reverse side of the “Big Blue” is equally pleasing to the eye. Its wave-edged screw-in caseback features a unique OMEGA innovation: a patented ceramic Naiad Lock that keeps the engraved wording pleasingly in position.
As is now standard throughout the Omega range, the watch has a “Master Co-Axial” caliber (our 2014 explainer here): the Caliber 8906. The movement is able to withstand magnetic forces of up to 15,000 gauss and backed by a 4-year warranty (standard fare for all calibers bearing the Master Chronometer designation).
The blue rubber strap with orange stitching and orange edges has been designed to give the appearance of being fabric. It is treated with an anti-bacterial coating, features a wave pattern on the underside and is held to the wrist by a blue ceramic foldover clasp.
