SIHH 2013 preview…
In 2013 Montblanc will introduce a new model in its in Nicolas Rieussec line, the Nicolas Rieussec “Rising Hours”. This watch features a day/night indication at 12 o’clock which shows the hours in one of two colors. There are some interesting mechanics working to do this, but for me this misses the bigger picture which is the logic of building a watch around a day/night indication. Generally speaking I think day/night indicators are a useless and uninteresting complication and I tend to have pretty good sense of whether it is 7am or 7pm.
Available in rose gold (shown here), steel ant a limited 28 piece platinum variation. The Montblanc Nicolas Rieussec line, representing the manufacture’s mid-range, in-house line, starts at around $11,000 and is certainly one of the brand’s more interesting offerings. But it will be interesting to see where this one is priced and if there is enough appeal and mechanical ingenuity here to attract collectors. Personally I just don’t see the point of this watch.
