IWC is no stranger to “boutique-only” edition watches, but in a new twist (and sign of the times), this new Pilot’s Watch Chronograph is exclusive to IWC’s Online Boutique, until October 2018 at least. The mechanics are solid but nothing fancy, which helps keep the piece (relatively) affordable — which is arguably a good thing. Inside is the IWC Caliber 79230, an automatic chronograph movement based on the ETA 7750, with a 44 hour power reserve.
Same goes for the strap — the leather lined texile strap is nice, but obviously part of the sub-$5k price point — although arguably a bit too “cheap” — something a bit nicer possibly even steel bracelet would have been nice as it is always much easier to add your own NATO or similar.
Bottom line: the IWC Pilot’s Watch design is quintessential IWC. It’s nice to see it available online.
