Longines celebrates this year the 60th anniversary of its first Flagship collection. For this occasion, the watchmaking brand introduces the “Flagship Heritage – 60th Anniversary 1957-2017” and boy is it a beauty. This timepiece was inspired by a Flagship model kept in the Swiss watchmaker’s headquarters, reportedly a favorite of of Longines’ Ambassador of Elegance, Kate Winslet. Available in steel, yellow gold or rose gold, these numbered and limited-edition models display a flagship on the back, as did the original pieces.
The remake is largely faithful to the original, featuring a two-tone silvered dial with applied hour markers that are either Arabic numerals or arrowheads and applied Longines logo. Gold plated hands and hour markers match the case metal, except the steel version which has rose gold plated markers. The case has been upsized a bit to 38.5mm in diameter, though is still a modestly sized watch by modern standards. The solid case back is stamped with a relief caravel, just as on the 1950s original. Inside is an automatic calibre L609, essentially an ETA 2892 produced exclusively for Longines.
