This is the latest Classic Sonata from Ulysse Nardin. Not a new model from the manufacture (UN debuted a Sonata in 2003), the latest designs of this watch are the most attractive yet, having moved from a more technical look to a cleaner aesthetic. And of course being a chiming watch, we know that its beautiful lines and clean dial belie its impressive lineup of complex mechanical functions inside. Actually, the Classic Sonata’s ease of use relative to its technical sophistication — a hallmark of Ulysse Nardin watches — make this watch a rather interesting timepiece.
Ulysse Nardin Classic Sonata
44mm rose gold or steel case
Hours, minutes, seconds aside, this watch boasts has an alarm function, dual time system with instant timezone adjustor, and double window big date with forward and backward date corrector. The alarm complication (situated at 1 o’clock on the dial) has a cathedral chime (gong & hammer) with a 12 hour ‘countdown’ display in the center of the counter, while the Dual Time function enables you to view home time and current time simultaneously. Time zone adjustment can be made both backwards and forwards, with the push of a button. The alarm can be turned on/off and also can be set right down to the minute, which is mechanically sophisticated and not oft seen functionality for an alarm watch.
The desirable mechanics combined with the clean, pleasing aesthetic make this watch a winner. The Classic Sonata is offered in two beautiful dial/case combinations, black and rose gold, or stainless steel with blue markers. The rose gold will set you back $42,800 and stainless steel $24,800.
