Baselworld 2017 First Look…
The signature design from Jaquet Droz is the Grande Seconde, inspired by the pocket watch created by Pierre Jaquet-Droz in 1784, harking back to the Age of Enlightenment – Pierre Jaquet-Droz was the impetus behind time becoming a series of artistic moments of musings and journeys. The Modern day house of Jaquet Droz has put various twists on the design while remaining faithful to the original concept from over 200 years ago. This year, Jaquet Droz is set to introduce a gorgeous new version of the Grande Seconde for women, the Grande Seconde Tourbillon Mother-of-Pearl Dial you see here.
Jaquet Droz Grande Seconde Tourbillon Mother-of-Pearl
limited edition 88 pieces
39mm diamond-set red gold case, automatic mechanical tourbillon caliber (7 day power reserve)
Done right, the beauty of a mother-of-pearl dial is hard to resist. This watch has just such a dial — and an adorned rotor as well! Colloquially referred to as “MOP”, the material is fragile and delicate and demands amazing dexterity to prevent chipping and flaking. The shimmering effects of play off the gleam of red gold on the 39 mm case set with brilliant-cut diamonds plus the highlight on the dial and the folding clasp. Roman numeral indexes for hours and minutes give a touch of classicism to the design, along with the blued-steel hands. The gold oscillating weight is also adorned with white mother-of-pearl and the movement’s bridges with a fanned Côtes de Genève design.
With all this, let us not overlook the fact that the watch also has a tourbillon, with a silicon balance spring and pallet horns (a first for Jaquet Droz). The white satin strap completes the look.
