Sorry Yohan, your secret is out…we’ve got the Olympic pics to prove it!

You won’t hear the **official** announcement until three days after the closing ceremony of the 2012 Olympic Games (thanks to Olympic policy).  But here’s the **unofficial** announcement:  Jamaican sprinter Yohan “The Beast” Blake will be wearing a Richard Mille wristwatch during his pursuit of Olympic Gold.  Yes, my hunch was a good one, and now I’ve got plenty of pictures to back it up, courtesy of an adidas press conference held earlier today in London…

Update:  Live Action 2012 Olympics!!! Yohan wore the watch in the Olympic 100m prelims and finals — we’ve got the start to finish pics, here.

Unfortunately Richard Mille is not providing any specifics at this time, citing Olympic policy.  So let me savor for a moment this Perpetuelle victory — ahhhh, yes — Richard Mille has been out-sprinted to their own announcement.   Of course they never had a chance with their hands tied; and as such I do not have a specific model name or specifications.  However the watch clearly shares DNA with the RM 038 — the watch that PGA Tour golfer Bubba Watson wears.  I also know that the strap is made of Velcro.  So here we go now, with the first **unofficial** looks at Yohan Blake’s watch, Richard Mille.

Despite all the buzz that will now blaze like lightning through the watch world, it is still Usain Bolt who is the man to beat.  Blake is the young gun; Bolt, the current world record holder for the 100m and 200m sprints — a formidable sprinter — and also a proud Hublot Ambassador.  And so at least as it pertains to horology, the stage is set:  Hublot vs. Richard Mille.  Hublot with the champ and man to beat, Mille with the up-and-comer.  One must acknowledge that if Yohan Blake comes up with a big win or two, it will have been an amazingly prescient move on Richard Mille’s part.
