Vacheron Constantin just unveiled the first watch in its 2014 line-up, the Malte Tourbillon Collection Excellence Platine. The Collection Excellence Platine is a series of limited edition Vacheron Constantin watches first started in 2006, each with a platinum case, dial, buckle, and yes even platinum thread for the strap. The last piece introduced into this superlative collection was this past summer, the Patrimony Traditionnelle 14-Day Tourbillon; this 50-piece limited edition Malte Tourbillon is a nice addition to this prestigious collection.
Vacheron Constantin Malte Tourbillon “Collection Excellence Platine”
Limited Edition 50 Pieces
38mm x 48 mm platinum case (12.7 mm thick), manual wind Vacheron Caliber 2795 (tourbillon; power reserve 45 hours), alligator strap with platinum buckle
You can see that the Cal. 2795 is finely finished. Vacheron notes that the tourbillon bar alone required 12 hours of hand craftsmanship in the berçage technique which consists of filing the tips of the arms with perfect regularity so as to give them a conical and semi-cylindrical shape.
The hour and minute hands is not vertically centered (note their position relative to the crown); this offset is to accommodate the large 60-second tourbillon at 6 o’clock:
The tourbillon carriage reflects the brand’s signature Maltese cross emblem. Also note the platinum dial with fine grained texture has a subtle “Pt 950” mark in between four and five o’clock:
Beautiful watch. Price will be around 170,000 EUR, or about $225,000 US.
