Raymond Weil Maestro Tradition – New Collection

Raymond Weil is introducing a new collection — the Maestro Tradition.  Modest and understated — these slightly formal and classy designs looks good and should dress-up nicely.  While Raymond Weil watches in general leave me yearning for something more, I would say that if you are in the market for a no-frills, entry level mechanical luxury watch at a reasonable price, you should give these watches a look.

Raymond Weil Maestro

automatic mechanical movement, 39.5mm steel case (water reistant to 50m), date window at 3 o’clock on the dial with a “clou de Paris” relief, and come on a leather strap with matching stainless steel buckle.

3 styles:

white dial with nickel-plated roman numerals (Ref: 2837 STC 00308)

silver dial with black arabic numerals (Ref: 2837 STC 05659)

silver dial with black roman numerals; small-seconds (Ref: 2838 STC 00659)

I think they look exactly the same as some earlier models from Frederique Constant, don’t you?

I think those models I’m talking about are called by Fredrique Constant as “Two Step” or “Two Step Case”, something like that…

Thanks for your comment — yes, while I was not familiar with the FC automatic Two Step Case watches I did google it and see that they bear a lot of similarities. I have seen Breguet’s with similar designs, too. But the FC or the Raymond Weil can both be had for somewhere in the $1,500 range, unlike Breguet!

Hi All, i totaly agree! These are almost 100% copies from the Frederic Constant watches! Not very original from RW.

I own the FC, beautiful watch for agreat price! I have spoken to a retailer recently about RW and he said that this brand doesnt know where they are going. I think this copied watch proves that bold statement….

The price of these new RW watches seem to be a lothigher than the Frederic Constant version.

Does anyone know the exact prices already?

  • Byrno

I like these but agree that they are very FC in there look – RW seem need to take a leaf out of the book of Cartier or Rolex and have some originality and structure in their styling – they should aim to product timeless watches rather than follow current trends.

    • Byrno

that said i do love this watch the Tradition – i think that could be a timeless piece (http://swisswatchspecialists.com/pages/show_product.php?prid=2849)

You are not well informed, the maestro line are an evolution of previous tradition line, with were copied by FC. So who is really copying who? The retailer who told you that probably sold you the FC…

Please compare the model of Frederique Constant, introduced in 1994:

with the Raymond Weil Maestro of 2010:

It is a blatant copy. Please see also following link on another case of Raymond Weil copying other watches brands:

Raymond Weil is only copying others these days! You say that it’s not a bad thing but i disagree! They copy Rolex, Longines, Frederick Constant and Zenith.

If they go on they are becoming the swiss version of all the far east companies that do nothing but faking others! I think it’s a cheap way of introducing new models and makes RW very inattractive to me.
