UPDATE: The Richard Mille mystery man is Jamaican Sprinter Yohan Blake. See our updated reportage HERE.
Today I’ve got a first look at a Richard Mille Tourbillon prototype watch (possibly a RM038) that will be on the wrist of a yet-unnamed sprinter at the 2012 Olympics. Judging by the colors, it will be a Jamaican. Usain Bolt? Unless a huge RM coup, definitely not. Asafa Powell? Yohan Blake? In accordance with Olympic rules, the name won’t be announced until 3 days after the closing ceremonies. But wait not…Perpetuelle’s got a hunch on this one…

So if not Usain Bolt (he wears Hublot), who? It’s a tough call — the Richard Mille RM038 you see here could be worn by Asafa Powell, Yohan Blake, or another of the many top Jamaican sprinters. It was Asafa Powell who brought Jamaica into the spotlight as the 100m world-record holder before Bolt burst onto the international scene in Beijing. But this is likely his last Olympic games, and on this count I would say no.
Which leaves 22-year old Yohan Blake. He’s the proven-potential-but-still-up-and-comer, which fits right with Mille’s style for picking Ambassadors. Leading up to the 2012 Olympics, Blake beat Usain Bolt in both 100m and 200m races, though in London the defending gold medal holder and world record holder Usain Bolt is still the man to beat. If Blake comes away a big winner, this would be a HUGE score for Richard Mille. Which is why I’ll go out on a limb and guess that the watch you see here will be worn by Johan Blake. Wait and see!
