I believe, but am not certain, that this special edition IWC Big Pilot Perpetual Calendar watch is the final version of the same watch that I first previewed in August 2010. Why IWC is now touting this watch despite its “2010″ status is a bit odd — my only guess is that the watches are just now starting to be delivered. I originally referred to the watch as “yellow”, but I see that IWC refers to it as “orange” — six of one, half dozen of another, I say. Oh, and for what it’s worth — I still do not like absolutely detest the “One out of 250″ engraving on the watch. At this level I think the pieces should be individually numbered pieces.

This watch is exclusively available at the IWC Boutiques in Las Vegas and Los Angeles. Price is $28,000.

What is wrong with IWC? Text on the side of the case is a big faux-pas – this is a $28,000 time piece, not a NASCAR rig (oh well, they did the same with the Top Gun). And I agree complete, at this price range the case needs to be individually numbered. Show stopper.

Absolutely agree with the comment regarding the numbering. I won’t buy a watch that says ‘one of…’. I really don’t understand the reasoning behind this. The watch is no longer unique – duh!
It bothers me that a $28,000 watch is produced in such a parsimonious manner. The sleeves of the pushers on IWC chronograph watches are not screwed into the case. Instead they are forced in to make a friction fit because this saves 20 cents during the production process. But if the watch needs servicing then the case can be damaged! All for the sake of 20 cents!
I hate this sort of stinginess and it has put me off the brand.
Why on earth should I pay almost $30,000 for a steel watch anyway?!
And the price of their steel bracelets….Oh dear!
