De Bethune Dream Watch 5

Mirror polished titanium…

De Bethune Logo

DeBethune Dream Watch 5

The Dream Watch 5 looks like some sort of mirror polished spacecraft, doesn’t it?  Horologically speaking, it incorporates a jump-hour display along with minutes displayed on a rotating disc and a (tiny) moonphase — all viewed through the aperture up top. And it is made of mirror-polished titanium, with a cabochon-cut ruby adorning the crown. But really, it is an avante-garde piece of horology, flying in the same universe as the likes of Urwerk, MB&F, and the like.  Price: 150,000 CHF.  Darn cool watch if you ask me…nicely done guys!

DeBethune Dream Watch 5 Profile View

According to the men behind De Bethune, David Zanetta and Denis Flageollet, the Dream Watch 5 is s intended to embody 21st century watchmaking, and in fact its horological attributes – “however innovative and high-tech – do not constitute the primary interest of this creation.”

Dream Watch 5 derives its unusual shape from its predecessors, from the bridge of Dream Watch 1 through to the case of Dream Watch 4: it encapsulates an ongoing work of research on shapes, materials and colours. In step with successive creations, the design has been pared down to a cambered delta-shaped motif representing the major element of the collection’s aesthetic and more generally that of De Bethune watches.

And the Dream Watch 5 looks pretty darn good on the wrist, too — check out this wrist shot Hodinkee took.
