The popular Breitling Chronomat 41 is now available in a black and red color-set, limited to 2,000 pieces. As with the full Chronomat 41 range, this model has Breitling’s automatic mechanical Caliber 01 movement inside, fully visible through the sapphire crystal caseback (the in-house, COSC-certified B01 debuged in 2009).
What differentiates this model from the “normal” Chronomat 41′s is its color-set — black dial with a red central chronograph seconds hand and red counter hands. One design element I’ve never warmed up to is the use of a “square” section on the dial — see my modified image below. Breitling uses this or a similar “boxing” of the inner dial on several of its models. It just seems like a weird geometry to introduce into a watch that is otherwise all circles and curves. A matter of personal preference, yes; but for me a definite turn-off.

In the image below I have highlighted in yellow the “boxing” of the inner dial. Actually it is not even a square (note the one edge is angled so as to avoid the date window). A peculiar and unnecessary design element, if you ask me!
