Seiko’s “haute horlogerie” line to be distributed outside Japan…

I think this is a relativley big announcement for watch collectors, Seiko fans in particular.  While not a brand I cover much here at Perpetuelle, I’ve always kept my eye on the Grand Seiko collection because, as I understand, it is Seiko’s version of the Swiss made luxury watch.  Whether it is equivalent or not is a subject for another day.  But there is no denying these watches are highly sought after and appreciated by many watch collectors.  Problem is, as of today these watches are ONLY available in Japan (and a very limited # of retail locations elsewhere), and this has been a major turn off for many serious connoisseurs and collectors of fine watches (for example, my watch friend RJ at FratelloWatches).

Well – the official word now from Seiko is this:  “SEIKO WATCH CORPORATION is proud to announce that its renowned and respected luxury watch collection, Grand Seiko, is to be released into selected international markets during 2010. Long recognised by collectors, watchmakers and industry observers as one of the great watches in the world, Grand Seiko has, until now, been available only in Japan and a very limited number of retail locations elsewhere but, thanks to increased production capacity, Grand Seiko will be marketed in partnership with carefully selected retail partners in other markets.”

While this is merely announcement and still the full details are not yet known, it does bode well for Seiko fans around the world who would like to see the elusive Grand Seiko now come within reach (literally).
