Gérald Genta
May 1, 1931 – August 17, 2011 RIP
I received a nice email yesterday from Constantin Stikas, a longtime watch journalist, photographer and editor of a new site for watch enthusiasts, http://www.veryimportantwatches.com:
I am very proud to announce the online publication of a unique interview of Gerald Genta, the grand Master of watchmaking aesthetics, exactly one year following his passing away.
It is an interview of great historical value, in which the friends of Haute Horlogerie can read his thoughts, but also listen to him speak on all of the subjects that concern his longstanding career which represent the most impressive pages of Haute Horlogerie. It also reveals even aspects of his career and of his personality that have hitherto remained unknown.
The conversation between Constantin Stikas and Gérald Genta took place in December 2009. A must read for any passionate watch enthusiast!
I wish you all the best with your new website, Constantin.

He contributed to the creation of the Seamaster and of the Constellation (practically, the majority of successful sports watches today), as well as to at least 100,000 watches for most Haute Horlogerie companies (Audemars Piguet, Patek Philippe, Vacheron Constantin, Piaget, Chopard, Van Cleef & Arpels, Omega, Chaumet, Corum, Hamilton, Universal, Seiko, down to his latest collaboration with the Confrérie Horlogère of Mathias Buttet), also by executing specially commissioned pieces for members of royal families and collectors from all corners of the world, without neglecting to design the most widely sold watch at the time, a Timex, which was produced in 30,000,000 copies !
