Jaeger-LeCoultre:  Totally Cool, Totally Unprecedented, Totally “With It”

Watch owners, collectors and enthusiasts:  Sign-up and sign-up now!  This is your chance to see in real-time more than 15 new and exceptional Jaeger-LeCoultre timepieces that will be unveiled in less than a week’s time at the 2010 Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH) in Geneva:

I would like to heap oodles and oodles of praise upon whomever at Jaeger-LeCoultre came up with this idea.  You rock!  And I do not say this just because I will not be at the event.  This is a really important advancement for the watch industry.  Over the past couple years Jaeger-LeCoultre has demonstrated as well as any other luxury watch brand that it knows how to connect and interact with the online watch community (good website, “LeClub”, good YouTube channel, good communication with bloggers, etc…..what about Twitter :-) ). And this just puts the icing on the cake.

So again – YOU (yes I’m talking to You) can view Jaeger-LeCoultre’s LIVE webcast on the 2010 Collection on 19 January 2010 starting at 10:15am U.S. Eastern Time (that’s 4.15pm CET), and if you want you can even submit your entries for the Q&A session with Stéphane Belmont, Marketing Director.  As I say all you need to do is Sign-up and sign-up now!

This is truly unprecedented and I hope Jaeger-LeCoultre has doubled its web server capacity because I expect the participation in this event to be every bit as unprecedented as the event itself.

As much as I am a JLC fan, I don’t think their website is *that* good. For example, it didn’t work at all under Chrome, and things like model variation selection is pretty broken on Safari too.

And giving them praise because they ‘came up’ with the live streaming thing may be a bit much credit too; I would rather say that it’s about time that they start doing things like this. But agreed, JLC is probably ahead of the other watch brands on the interwebs in many aspects, and that’s nice!

      Hi Remko
Thanks for your comments! As I did mention, I would say JLC’s website is *good*. I would agree with you it is not “that good” – not spectacular, not the best – just good. :-)

Also, I perhaps could have been more clear, but I am not giving them praise for coming up with “live streaming” – that has been around for many many years now. What I am giving them credit for coming up with is the concept of a live webcast from SIHH to preview the brand’s new watches with watch enthusiasts around the world. Can you name one other brand who has ever done such done such a thing?

These clarifications aside, we both seem to agree that JLC is ahead of other watch brands on the Internet in many aspects! And for that “total package” and for bringing new ideas such as a live SIHH 2010 webcast to us – I give them praise!

You’re absolutely right, I can’t name any brand to have done that. I think it’s just the computer geek in me who’s a bit frustrated that watch brands such as JLC don’t do more on the internet. For example, I wish LeClub expanded a bit to its full potential. But anyway, this is definitely a step in the right direction, and I assume more things (and other brands) will folow, so I should stop complaining and cheer with you :-)

I always try to push for more online from the watch brands! Some are making more progress than others, and I think JLC is doing a decent job relative to others.

          Anyway…
          Cheers!
          :-)

Good for JLC! This needs to happen with all brands. It’s also good for the retailers that do not attend Basel. Rather than spending thousands of dollars to fly over there, find a hotel go to all the marketing dinners, etc. one can sit in front of their computer and simply say “I’ll take that one” without leaving their home or office.

JLC also have a “behind the dial” featurette with the Financial Times- http://behindthedial.ft.com and are also covering SIHH http://www.ft.com/sihh
