    Simply gorgeous.

Clearly taste is subjective; I’d say it was yet another ugly watch in a never ending flood of ugly watches.

    • Kyle

No disagreements with you on the subjectivity of taste! What brand / models of watches do you prefer?

      • David

Ooh…there are so many, but if I had to choose from the modern brands; Moser, Lange, IWC, some of the quieter JLC’s and Rolexes, lots of vintage…Minerva, Longines, Gubelin, Patek, Omega..and Rolex of course.

Absolutely terrible experience with a defective Chopard watch and the shop Bucherer, Zürich. I purchased a Chopard Monaco Historique in the summer of 2009 from Bucherer on Bahnhofstrasse. Within a few months the watch stopped winding at which time I noticed that a screw had come out of the mechanism and jammed the pendulum within the case (all nicely observed through the crystal back). Not something to expect with a watch in this category, and certainly not for a new piece. I immediately brought this to the attention of Bucherer and requested an identical watch as replacement, or the ability to exchange for a similar or more expensive model. Instead of providing me with either of these choices, both Bucherer and Chopard decided to treat this as a warranty repair issue. Extensive discussions both in person, over the phone, and by email had no effect on the extremely poor customer service and brand management by both Bucherer and Chopard and the watch is waiting to be picked up from the service department. I urge any readers of this posting to consider carefully their choice of shop (avoid Bucherer) , and choice of watch (Chopard) if you have any expectations of product quality and customer service at a level that luxury goods and jewelry would require. The fact that my wife and I have been customers of Bucherer for 20 years had no influence on their actions.

If any readers have suggestions on how I may resolve this stalemate, I would be happy to hear them at rob_61d@hotmail.com. If not, I hope that this posting has saved someone from being subject to the same experience.

      Rob,
thanks for sharing your experience. The after-sales service for the watch industry continues to be very lacking for some brands. Good luck with your situation. Unfortunately I have no specific advice to offer but perhaps other readers here will.

I too would warn against buying from Chopard, purely based on their customer service. I bought a lovely watch last year which I’ve had to take back a few times for a number of reasons (screw loose on strap, losing time). They generally take about a month to return the watch, which is fine if it only happens once or twice.

After the third time, when the watch had spent as much time being repaired as being on my wrist, I decided to ask for a refund. I wrote to customer services via their email and on their website a number of times and have not received a single reply, even though my emails were explanatory, professional and polite.

I spent over $5,000 and have received a faulty product, and have subsequently been ignored.

I reiterate: To buy from Chopard is to take a risk.
